Another Denver sports complex is getting an upgrade.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets, announced plans on Sept. 18 to renovate Ball Arena.
KSE will spend an estimated $135M on renovations at the 27-year-old facility, according to a statement from the Avalanche.

Renovations include three new clubs inside and a 30K SF addition to the arena’s east lobby, which will include a team store double the size of the current retail shop. A 34K SF pedestrian plaza will also face Chopper Circle, according to The Denver Post.
Ball Arena’s upgrades come about a year and a half after KSE revealed plans to redevelop parking lots surrounding the facility. Redevelopment plans call for an entertainment venue, hotel, two multifamily buildings, a central park, shopping, dining and office towers, according to past Bisnow reporting and a statement from the Avalanche.
“The renovated Ball Arena and the subsequent redevelopment of the surrounding land allow us to keep doing both for another 25 years and beyond,” KSE Chairman Stan Kroenke said in a statement.
Construction at Ball Arena is expected to begin next summer and end in the fall of 2028, according to The Denver Post.
The indoor sports arena opened as the Pepsi Center in 1999. Ball Corp. purchased the arena’s naming rights in 2020.
The facility houses the Avalanche, Nuggets and Colorado Mammoth, all of which are owned by Kroenke.
Denverites have long wondered when KSE would upgrade Ball Arena, especially as other Denver sports teams announced new stadiums.
Denver Summit FC, the city’s professional women’s soccer team, will build a $225M open-air stadium in Santa Fe Yards. The stadium was expected to open ahead of the 2028 season, but delays pushed the opening back to later in the year. The team is playing at a temporary stadium it built in Centennial.
The Denver Broncos are also expected to build a new stadium at Burnham Yards, south of the team’s current stadium. Last month, additional details and renderings for the proposed entertainment district surrounding the Broncos’ potential new stadium were released.
In addition to the three teams that play at Ball Arena, Kroenke owns the Colorado Rapids and recently bought a controlling stake in the Los Angeles Angels. KSE also took full ownership of Denver’s River Mile development, a project that includes Elitch Gardens and Meow Wolf, in June 2025.
