No more wandering grocery aisles aimlessly: German-based grocer Lidl says it is bringing efficiency to the Charlotte area, with the opening of four new stores.

Locations in Shelby and Indian Land opened Sept. 21; Rock Hill and Gastonia stores open Thursday, according to a statement from the company.

Each store will feature a bakery, sustainable certified seafood, and organic and gluten-free options. Groceries will be private label.

With only 20K SF of shopping space (that is just six aisles, hungry shoppers), customers can expect to get in and out quickly.

Time savings is not all the company predicts: Price reductions among competitors may even follow, it said.

“Again and again, we have seen that when Lidl comes to town, prices drop all around our stores,” Lidl Director of Communications Will Harwood said. “The reality for a lot of customers is that a simple five-minute drive in the direction of a Lidl store can lead to significant savings.”

Several Lidl grocery stores are already sprinkled throughout the Carolinas, including Kinston, Greenville, Sanford, Rocky Mount, Wilson and Winston-Salem in North Carolina and Spartanburg and Greenville in South Carolina. The chain began opening stores in the Carolinas in June. The German-based chain operates about 10,000 stores in 28 countries throughout Europe.
