Charlotte in September will host about 1,200 members of the International Economic Development Council at its annual conference, where participants are expected to discuss adapting to the ?new normal? and rewriting the rules for economic development. (There are rules? No one tells us anything.) Main topics will include the current forces influencing economic development, what strategies are needed to respond, and how to spot the next wave of innovation. The Washington, DC-based IEDC says it selected Charlotte because the city has demonstrated strong bonds among businesses, government, and institutions of higher learning. (But we still can't get baseball uptown?) The event will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center. |
