| It may have been an unfamiliar sight for Uptown Charlotte this past weekend. But not for long. West met East when a team of Wells Fargo horses clopped their way up Tryon Street as part of the Wells Fargo Community Celebration. (Who would win a horse battle, the Wells Fargo horses or the Budweiser Clydesdales?) The event introduced the San Francisco-based bank to anyone in town who hasn?t already heard that its takeover of NC?s home-grown Wachovia is now complete. All of the green and blue Wachovia signs are gone, replaced by Wells? crimson and gold. | |
| ?We wanted to do all we could do to be a part of this community,? Wells? Charlotte regional president Kendall Alley tells us. Since 1852, Wells has been a trusted steward of all things valuable, from documents to gold. ?And now it's money,? he says. Saturday?s event should help qualm Charlotte's trepidation over the merger. ?We bring the strength of these two companies together,? | NC Native American tribes Saturday underscored their history with dance, song, and the pounding of drums, which reverberated through the newly named Wells Fargo Atrium. Tribes participating included the Catawbas, Cherokees, and Haliwa Saponi. All shared their traditions as part of the day-long celebration. Wells Fargo picked up the tab for visitors wishing to visit any and all uptown museums, including the Mint, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture, and the McColl Center for Visual Art. |
