| All good things must come to an end, and Reznick Group tax principal Joe Wallace reminds us that the cherished 45L tax credit expires Dec. 31. Formally known as The Energy Efficient Home Credit, it provides eligible contractors with a $2,000 tax credit for each residential unit (pending certain requirements). The program began in '06 and, by popular demand, was given a one-year extension in '10. However, the hope of its continuing is not likely. Criteria: the energy savings must be officially engineer certified (and Reznick Group can assist), and the building needs to be three stories or fewer (prime example: a garden apartment complex).
