Charlotte Region Visitors Authority CEO Tim Newman recently hosted his son, 14-year-old William, for a Day at Work with Dad. Tim will be hosting a considerably larger crowd in September 2012, when more than 35,000 delegates and media swarm uptown for the DNC Convention. He tells us he's been working to make Charlotte's welcome a warm one for the Dems but adds it's not the city's first rodeo. While the DNC may be capturing lots of attention, Charlotte hosted more than 200,000 for the recent CIAA Tournament, and more than 70,000 last year when the NRA toted its guns into town. Still, Tim says the DNC brings some serious cool. ?Some people still don't know what Charlotte is,? he says. ?And I think this will eliminate that.? |
