LOCAL ENGINEER TO HELP JAPAN

Nuclear engineering firm Babcock & Wilcox Co (based in Charlotte) is talking to the Toshiba Group about providing technical assistance to secure and maintain the safety of the nuclear power plants atFukushima Daiichi in Japan. Toshiba?s assisting the Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Co, operator of the Fukushima power plants. The goal is to restore and maintain the safety of the affected nuclear power plants and to reinstate power in the regions hit by the earthquake and tsunami. B&W CEO Brandon Bethardsmaintains to us that nuclear energy is safe, and the anticipatedlessons to be learned at Fukushima will help keep in that way.
