ITALIAN FIRM ADDS JOBS IN HICKORY

If you've dreamed of living near a supplier of machining processes and coatings for the industrial gas turbine market, your dreams have come true. Parma, Italy-based Turbocoating SpA, will locate a new,$15M production facility near Hickory, creating 110 jobs over the next five years. The project was made possible in part by a $110k grant from the state's One North Carolina incentives fund. Turbocoating is locating to Catawba County to be close to Charlotte's Siemens operations, which produces industrial gas turbines (like the one above; we've got one in the den). The average annual wage at the new plant will be $56,377. (Current Catawba County average annual wage is $34,216.) Turbocoating CEO Rudi Bakker says the state's strong manufacturing and engineering sectors played a role in the company's decision to move here.
