Local business and civic leaders have pushed to bring the Charlotte Knights to Second Ward uptown for years. They hope to stimulate more economic development in the CBD and bring an end to having the city's ?home team? actually based in Fort Mill, S.C. But Charlotte real estate lawyer Jerry Reese (who's blocked the effort through five failed lawsuits) says Charlotte is thinking too small. He wants to bring in major league ball, instead. He also argues the proposal with the Knights is poor urban planning. | |
Jerry wants a major league stadium to be the centerpiece of a $4B redevelopment of his own. Commissioners this fall are expected to weigh extending a $1 per year lease with the Knights on the proposed stadium site, giving the team more time to plan its relocation strategies. Reese says he'll challenge that lease extension with another lawsuit if necessary. |
