Visitors to North Carolina in 2010 spent a record $17B, an increase of 9% from $15.6B in 2009, according to recent stats from Gov. Bev Perdue?s office. The total was higher than the previous record of $16.8B set in 2008. The Tar Heel State was the sixth-most-visited in the nation, with 36.8 million tourists. Visitor spending generated more than $947M in state tax revenue last year, a 12.6% increase over 2009. Visitors spend more than $46.6M per day in the state and contribute $4.1M per day in state and local tax revenue as a result of that spending, according to the US Travel Association. |
