More outdoor space, a taco joint and a new boutique hotel brand are among the developments coming to Harbor Point, an emerging waterfront neighborhood sandwiched between Harbor East and Fells Point. Beatty Development Group's 27-acre project is already home to the 20-story Exelon tower, office building Thames Street Wharf and a handful of retailers. Here are the next projects.
1. The Sandlot
Spike Gjerde's Foodshed Group is showcasing its commitment to local sourcing in a new type of space: a family-friendly outdoor restaurant and playground, the Sandlot. Scheduled to debut May 26, Sandlot will feature a stretch of sand (as the name implies), with palm trees, umbrellas and chairs to complete the beach vibe. It will occupy 30K SF of prime waterfront land. Retrofitted shipping containers will house the bar, kitchen and refrigerator, said Foodshed partner Corey Polyoka.
"We're pushing the boundaries of what a restaurant is," Polyoka said.
Staff will serve ice cream, fresh juices and blended drinks from a vintage Airstream trailer Foodshed purchased from a Florida hippie. Beers from Manor Hill Brewing and Milkhouse Brewery will be on tap while sandwiches, sausages and snacks will feed guests.
2. 1405 Point and 3. Vida Taco Bar

Construction will begin this summer on Annapolis-based Vida Taco Bar's first Baltimore outpost, on the ground floor of luxury apartment building 1405 Point. The 3,659 SF "farm-to-taco" joint will begin serving Mexican fare and margaritas when the 17-story tower is completed in January, Beatty Development Group vice president of asset management Cathie Bryant said.
Developed in conjunction with Armada Hoffler Properties and The Henson Development Co., the building will contain 289 apartments, a rooftop pool, a fitness center and 18K SF of retail.
4. Ceremony Coffee Roasters
Another Annapolis establishment is expanding its Baltimore presence at Harbor Point. Ceremony Coffee Roasters opens Thursday in the Exelon building, serving its signature coffee drinks made with beans roasted in-house. Its second spot in Baltimore after Mount Vernon, this location will feature a different menu in the evening with cheese and charcuterie plates, beer, wine and liquor to capture the night crowd, Bryant said. The 2K SF shop joins West Elm furniture store, CorePower Yoga and honeygrow.
5. Canopy by Hilton and 6. Wills Wharf

Hilton's newest boutique brand hotel, Canopy by Hilton, will open on the top four floors of a 12-story Wills Wharf office building. The 156-room hotel will house a restaurant with an outdoor terrace offering sweeping water views when it opens in spring 2019, according to Hilton reps. Hilton will get its own lobby entrance and elevator in the 225K SF building, which will break ground this summer, Bryant said.
6. The Fells Point Farmers Market

The Fells Point Farmers Market moved east this month to 950 South Caroline St. as its usual location in Broadway Square in Fells Point undergoes a makeover from the city. It runs Saturday mornings through Nov. 18, featuring 40 vendors selling local produce, fruits, flowers, eggs, meats and cheeses, homemade jams and honey. Fells Point is one of the city's several farmers markets, which many vendors use as a stepping stone to a brick-and-mortar location.
