5 Must-Visit Food Trucks in Austin

While there's no shortage of great food trucks around Austin, we've compiled five of our favorites. Make sure and check out their respective websites before visiting because they are always on the move.

1. Paperboy

Location: 1203 E 11th St

A newcomer to the Austin food truck scene, Paperboy is worth a visit. Owner Ryan Harms has been a self-professed foodie his entire life and it shows. The menu is seasonal and focuses on simple, addicting breakfast options (we highly recommend the classic bacon, egg and cheese sandwich). Ryan tells us he is passionate about hospitality and he and his team work hard to create a comfortable, hospitable environment typically found at a stick-and-brick restaurant. Everyone who purchases breakfast receives a complimentary newspaper and food delivered to the table.

2. Short Bus Subs

Location: 4209 Airport Blvd

Short Bus Subs is exactly what it sounds like, a short bus converted into a sub-making machine. The Short Bus team gives a new twist to the typical school sack lunch by making bread from scratch and compiling unique, delicious sandwich options. Traditionalists can enjoy subs like The Principal featuring a combo of turkey, honey ham and roast beef while more adventurous eaters will swoon over options like a jalapeño chicken sandwich. They have three other buses throughout the city.

3. Bananarchy

Location: 603 W Live Oak St

If you’re going through Arrested Development withdrawals, Bananarchy to the rescue. Owners Anna Notario and Laura Anderson created the frozen banana stand, inspired by the offbeat comedy, and it’s taken the Austin dessert scene by storm. At Bananarchy you select a half or whole fair trade frozen banana, a dip (they even offer vegan chocolate), and a topping. The toppings range from Oreos to more responsible options like granola. The beauty of Bananarchy is you get the joy of eating a sweet dessert without the remorse or calories.

4. Gourdough's

Location: 1219 S Lamar Blvd

Gourdough’s is the definition of a guilty pleasure food and this truck is an Austin staple. When you think doughnuts you probably think breakfast, but Gourdough’s has indulgent options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For lunch you might enjoy the Mother Clucker, a fried chicken strip with honey butter or even a Fat Elvis with grilled bananas and bacon. The menu boasts a wide array of treats sure to make any doughnut connoisseur happy.

5. East Side King

Location: 8310 North Capital of Texas Hwy

Created by Paul Qui and Moto Utsunomiya as a side project when they were working at Uchi and Uchiko, East Side King’s menu offers Asian-fusion lunches and a la carte options. The food pairings are tasteful and tangy and include options like Thai Chicken Karaage with a brussels sprout salad, jasmine rice and pork belly bun. While prices are on the high end in the food truck world, the quality of the food more than makes up for it.
