Brooklyners know Brooklyn, and so, Honest Buildings’ Peter O’Brien tells us, developers are seeking BK-based architecture firms to design buildings that feel like Brooklyn—aka, not boxed.

Take Williamsburg-based AA Studio’s work turning the 120k SF of warehouse space at Red Hook’s 202 Coffey St into studios, office, and event space for art, fashion, design, and other creative types. The warehouses, now owned by Estate Four and originally used by shipbuilder Lidgerwood Manufacturing in the early 1900s, will maintain the industrial feel and deliver in 2016.

And there’s Bojidar Kadiev Architect's four-story addition to the four-story apartment building at 622 Ocean Pkwy to create a 23k SF, 26-unit building. The architect borrowed the look and details of the surrounding pre-war buildings, and work began last year.
