Carr Properties Seeking DC’s First WELL-Certified Designation for Columbia Center

Carr Properties is seeking a WELL-certified designation for 1152 15th St NW, Columbia Center, which could make it the first building in the District to receive the tag.

Carr is pursuing the designation as part of its deal to lease 8.7k SF to the American Society of Interior Designers, the Washington Business Journal reports. The certification is relatively new and issued by the International WELL Building Institute. WELL uses a ratings scale similar to LEED certification, with Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.

WELL building interiors are those that have been designed to improve wellness and health for building tenants. Columbia Center’s credentials for receiving the certification include a healthy amount of natural light inside, a fitness component, fresh air and food service that offers a range of healthy choices.

Carr purchased Columbia Center this past July for $258M from an affiliate of UBS. The building is next to the former Washington Post HQ that Carr also purchased with plans to convert it into a 700k SF space for Fannie Mae. [WBJ]
