The first Bay Area Dunkin’ Donuts is set to open in Walnut Creek this summer. Construction began this week and the store’s grand opening is scheduled for mid-June. Owner Matt Cobo has signed an agreement with Dunkin’ Donuts to open 12 locations in Contra Costa County, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

Shiva Developments and California Donut Kings have purchased the rights to open nine and 26 locations, respectively, throughout the Bay Area, but have yet to set any definite timelines. Those stores are expected to open in 2017. Developers are hoping to take advantage of the area’s year-round sunshine by including outdoor patio spaces in their restaurant designs. [SFBT]

Dunkin’ Donuts established locations in Southern California in 2014 and has a total of 11,000 restaurants worldwide. Each store has approximately 50 employees, so the anticipated 47 total Bay Area locations could create around 2,350 jobs. [SFBT]
