The recently shuttered Reading International Carmel Mountain 12 movie theater is about to get new life as a luxury cinema. Reading International, which operated the movie theater in the Carmel Mountain Plaza shopping center off I-15 and Carmel Mountain Road, recently revealed in an SEC filing that it's “refurbishing and repositioning” the movie house into an Angelika-branded luxury cinema that will open in the second half of the year.

A division of Reading International, Angelika Film Center (like this one in Washington, DC) is dubbed as a “movie center for grown-ups,” according to its website, with five national locations. The theater runs what the company terms as a “diverse mix of independent films” in a “sophisticated atmosphere.” It also hosts a cafe for limited food and drink selections. It's unclear to what extent the San Diego theater will echo this.
