Tesla Motors is eyeing CityCenterDC for a new gallery-showroom and has received the green light from the DC Zoning Administrator.
The Palo Alto-based luxury electric vehicle manufacturer has its sights set on 909 H St NW, right in the heart of the city’s most exclusive retail development. DC Zoning Administrator Matthew Le Grant recently informed Tesla that the gallery-showroom would fit under CityCenter DC’s existing zoning, the Washington Business Journal reports.
This would be the first car showroom at CityCenterDC, which features ultra high-end retailers like Hugo Boss, Dior and Gucci. Tesla should have little trouble fitting in with the luxury crowd, with models starting at $70k and going as high as $140k.
Elon Musk founded Tesla in 2003, but the company didn’t release its first vehicle until the 2008 launch of the Tesla Roadster. The company is expected to release the Model X SUV next year, which offers the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds and to travel 257 miles on a single charge. Tesla already has a presence in the District at 1050 K St NW and also maintains showrooms in Tysons and at Montgomery Mall in North Bethesda. [WBJ]
