Rappaport Says Food Is More Important Than Ever In Mixed-Use

Food is the key component when it comes to leasing out the retail space in DC’s recent crop of huge mixed-use developments, according to Rappaport president Henry Fonvielle.

Rappaport’s Jim Farrell and Jason Yanushonis (left), who're repping several of those deals, are snapped above.

“It’s all about restaurants, new grocery stores at mixed-use buildings and quick-service options these days,” Henry says.

Rappaport should know—it's doing retail leasing for several big projects in the DC area.

Case in point is Dock 79 (above), a mixed-use development that’ll include 305 luxury apartments when it opens later this year. Rappaport is handling the retail leasing, and The Salt Line and All-Purpose Pizza have signed on. Jim says Rappaport’s talking with two other restaurants for the remaining spaces.

Henry says Rappaport is also excited to be leasing “the iconic retail” at Oxford’s Gallery Place.

The firm’s also handling retail leasing at its H Street Connection (above) development, a JV with WC Smith to redevelop a 38k SF neighborhood center into a mixed-use project, expected to deliver near the end of 2019.

No word yet on what food options Rappaport plans to bring there.
