The bookstore that has become a D.C. staple since its 1984 opening will soon open a new location at the District's $2.5B southwest waterfront development.

Politics and Prose has signed on to lease 2,300 SF at The Wharf and is set to welcome its first customers during the development's Oct. 12 grand opening.

The store will feature a large assortment of books and other items and will host author events and book signings. The original Politics and Prose location at 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW has hosted major figures such as former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The new location at The Wharf has already scheduled four speakers, including MSNBC host Chris Matthews.

“Politics and Prose is a visionary DC institution with international cultural credibility – one that has stood the test of time while playing a central role in our city’s renaissance,” PN Hoffman CEO Monty Hoffman, one of the developers building the 24-acre project, said in a release.

Politics and Prose is also opening a new location at Union Market later this fall. Another independent bookstore, Solid State Books, announced last week it would open this fall in The Apollo building on H Street NE.
