The Peterson Cos unveiled an experimental outdoor office space in downtown Silver Spring Monday morning.
The 20-seat outdoor space on Ellsworth Drive will be open to the public from 10am to 7pm through October, the Washington Post reports. The concept was designed by a team of students from Montgomery College's Department of Applied Technology. The outdoor rooms include desks, chairs, outlets and free WiFi.
"OUTBOX was designed to invigorate a typical retail street and arts and entertainment district. We see it as a place where collaboration and creativity can foster in an enclosed, yet outdoor environment," said Peterson's Dan Figueroa. "We anticipate all types of individuals using the space including techies, telecommuters, executives, entrepreneurs and artists."
This project is just the latest in a history of Peterson's experimental gambles. The Fairfax-based company is planning a 1.2M SF development surrounding MGM's National Harbor. It is also working on a $70M, 300k SF experiential retail development called Avonlea in Loudon County. [WaPo]
