In your face, Target. Walmart Canada said this week it will be building two new supercentres this fiscal year, bringing the total number of Walmart locations across the country to 396. The mass merchant is also planning to remodel and expand existing stores to accommodate full grocery departments (something Target had offered), and add distribution centres. Locations for the new stores and distribution hubs have not been announced. Walmart will also be upgrading its e-commerce systems. Total cost of the expansion, which'll add nearly 230k SF of new space, will be $340M. Last month Walmart opened 11 new supercentres in Canada, including ones in Cornwall and Napanee.
