CBRE’s EVP of Hotels Bill Stone loves to use a hockey analogy when he can. After all, it’s playoff season (the beard is starting to itch like crazy!). Here is Bill on the current state of the hotel investment market: While less product is available, demand is strong. Rising top-line operating performance, rates, and occupancies are attracting domestic and US private equity, as well as public capital. “European and Asian capital are also evaluating the ‘hockey’ markets in Canada.” (So... every single city, town, and street corner?) The most sought-after hotel assets are select-service hotels in primary and secondary markets and large urban assets in major markets, especially those with strong conversion or renovation potential.
