Miami’s School of Whales, a real estate crowdfunding platform that launched last June, has revealed fresh details about its adaptive reuse of a historic Downtown Miami building.

School of Whales is renovating 100 Northeast First Ave., a 37K SF former post office and courthouse building, into a four-story redevelopment focused on culinary arts and affairs. The company's CEO, Andrea Petersen, told the Miami New Times this week that the building will be turned into a food hall, anchored by Biscayne Bay Brewing's first downtown location.

Also signing up for the project, which is expected to open next year, is a Japanese sushi and sake bar, a Mexican bakery and a mezcal bar, the New Times reports.

The still-unnamed project is being funded through School of Whales' crowdfunding campaign, which launched last year and secured $100K in less than 24 hours, Peterson told Bisnow last year. The other project the company is pursuing is at 200 East Flagler St., a seven-story entertainment and restaurant complex.

The founders say that their main goal is to create feasible CRE investment opportunities to the general public as the firm eyes Fort Lauderdale and Little River neighborhoods for new developments. The minimum investment for the crowdfunding campaigns is $500.
