Target is going tiny with its next South Bay store, bringing its small-format concept to Main Street Cupertino. The 21k SF store will anchor the mixed-use project.
Main Street Cupertino from Sand Hill Property Co will include 120 apartments, nearly 131k SF of retail, 260k SF of office space and a 180-room hotel. Apple has pre-leased most of the office space in the center, set to open next October, reports the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
The goal of the smaller stores is to facilitate quicker visits. The stores have a pharmacy, a smaller selection of clothing and home goods, electronics and strong grocery departments. Eight of the company's 15 new stores opened this year have the smaller format. Target has other small-format stores in Berkeley and San Francisco. [SVBJ]
