SFO Completes $250M Terminal Renovation With More Space, New Restaurants and Shops

Flight delays at the San Francisco International Airport may not be quite so painful after the renovation of Terminal 3 to include new restaurants and retail.

The $253M renovation opened to passengers yesterday includes a 53k SF expansion of the 400k SF Terminal 3 East Concourse. The renovation began in 2013 and includes eight new dining and retail spaces. New restaurants include a café, a deli, a bar-and-grill and made-to-order Mexican food. Shops offer art, locally sourced olive oils, gourmet food and gifts, a newsstand and more.

The terminal also includes three new boarding gates, a new 6k SF United Club and a larger central security checkpoint. Public artwork, lounge-style seating, free WiFi, 230 power outlets and 200 USB outlets are intended to create a relaxing environment for catching up on work while waiting for the plane. The restrooms even include private changing rooms. (Airport lounges are trending toward luxury.)

Designed by Gensler, the renovation is part of the airport's 10-year, $4.1B capital improvement plan. [SFBT, SFO]
