San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood has grown substantially in the past eight years and has more expansive plans ahead.
It is easy to focus on the growth in store for the area, with new residential and office buildings planned. When Salesforce Tower makes its city debut, it will be the tallest in San Francisco. SoMa is a prime spot when it comes to transit to support the employees in all those offices and housing, the San Francisco Business Times reports. The Central SoMa rezoning could open up the pipeline for more office space as well as some more residential, as long as Prop M doesn't slow things down.
Rezoning has driven past change for the neighborhood, with height limits increased in the Transbay District in 2005. Since then, the Transbay Transit Center (one of the country's largest transit hubs) has gotten underway (it's due to be finished in 2017) and many nearby buildings have been redeveloped.
