| Anyone who’s ever been stuck on the LBJ Freeway (pictured) is not surprised to hear that it—from I-35 to US 75—is No. 3 on the state’s 100 most congested roadway segments report. We might be shocked to see that it’s only No. 3 with its 432k annual hours of delay per mile. The Top 10 includes five roads in Harris County (duh) and No. 4 is the traffic jam we’ve all experienced on I-35 in Austin. Rounding out the DFW part of the Top 10: Woodall Rodgers Freeway at No. 5 (from I-35 to US 75), with 398k annual hours of delay per mile; No. 8 is I -35W in Tarrant County from I-30 to SH 183; and No. 9 (anyone else chanting the Beatles’ tune now?) is US 75 from I-635 to Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The study was compiled by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M in collaboration with TxDOT. The purpose? TTI research engineer Tim Lomax says Texans have known that traffic is bad, but this new list pinpoints hotspots to help transportation planners in prioritizing transit projects.
