Retail giant Amazon recently gave a sneak peek to civic leaders of its new 855K SF four-story fulfillment center underway (and nearly complete) in Sacramento Metro Air Park. The view included box-like, orange robots making their way across the warehouse floor, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.

The company said the $100 million center will be able to ship as many as 1M items each day, which is in line with similar facilities of that size. The center, Amazon's 10th, will open by mid-fall, in time for the holiday shipping season.

The new fulfillment center is the first large-scale vertical construction project in Sacramento Metro Air Park. Development at the 1,900-acre park, which is in the Natomas Basin flood plain, had been delayed for a number of years.

No tax rebates were offered to Amazon to bring the project to Sacramento, according to county officials, but the company did get a reduction in building permit-related fees, from $2.6M to about $867K. The permits were issued about a year ago.
