Carrier Global Corp. will invest more than $600M over the next three years to transform an existing 1.2M SF facility in Fort Worth into an advanced manufacturing and engineering center. Carrier plans to make changes and upgrades to around half of the Hillwood Alliance Westport 12 building at 1501 Distribution Drive in the AllianceTexas area of the city.
The planned improvements include adding new office space, mezzanines, an elevator and infrastructure to support three manufacturing lines, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Carrier said the investment will help expand manufacturing capacity for its advanced thermal management systems, which include air- and water-cooled commercial chillers that are used in data centers and the healthcare, education and industrial markets.
"By expanding our U.S. manufacturing and engineering footprint, we are increasing capacity for critical technologies, strengthening supply chain resilience and creating high-quality jobs," Carrier CEO David Gitlin said in a statement. “We are proud to partner with the Fort Worth community and the State of Texas as we invest in the workforce, innovation and manufacturing capabilities needed to support our customers' growth for decades to come."
The investment is expected to create 1,500 jobs, including advanced manufacturing and engineering positions. Carrier anticipates beginning operations in the facility next year.
The choice of the 27,000-acre Alliance community for Carrier’s facility further positions the area as a hub for advanced manufacturing, Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership CEO Robert Allen said.
“This new investment from Carrier is a powerful statement about what's possible in our city,” Allen said in a statement. “It demonstrates that Fort Worth is rapidly becoming a center of choice for advanced manufacturing and engineering services — a destination where companies choose to come to invest, expand and grow."
Toronto-based Celestica announced in May that it would invest $876M to build a more than 1M SF campus for advanced manufacturing and engineering in Alliance. The company produces data center infrastructure, including liquid-cooling and power solutions, as well as networking hardware.
Taiwanese tech giant Wistron InfoComm Corp. opened its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Fort Worth in July. The $700M facility will manufacture components for Nvidia's artificial intelligence-powered supercomputers.
The company is also working on a second manufacturing facility in the Alliance area.
Bell Textron Inc. is building a $632M factory in Alliance to construct aircraft parts. The company has a contract with the U.S. Army for Black Hawk helicopter parts that could be worth as much as $70B.
Just north of Fort Worth, MP Materials Corp. is spending more than $1.2B on a large-scale magnet manufacturing campus in Northlake. The 120-acre campus is expected to make North Texas the center of the nation’s rare earth magnet supply chain.
