RE Student Teams Vie to Reinvent Dead Mall

What's it going to be? NAIOP SoCal is holding its annual UCLA vs USC Real Estate Challenge on Nov. 19 on the campus of USC at Town and Gown. The five-member teams will compete to write the best proposal for a 950k SF former indoor shopping mall in Hawthorne. Opened in '77, the mall closed in '99 after the economic decline of the area resulting from aerospace cutbacks, and has remained dormant since. Encompassing more than 23 acres, the site presents an infill location opportunity surrounded by significant development.
