Green More Complex Than Ever

More so than any other state in the country, building in California demands a great deal of sustainability expertise from its builders, Snyder Langston director of sustainability Steven Gabbert tells us. Between our ever-evolving building codes, namely the California energy code [Title 24] and California green building code [Cal Green], along with the complexities associated with the LEED rating system, there are a lot of moving parts to consider, he says. The builder Irvine-based builder recently tapped Steven, a nine-year veteran of the company, for the position, which he says is part of the companys commitment to sustainable practices.

The firm now has over $500M worth of LEED/sustainable construction work in place, and about one-third of the firm's employees are LEED Accredited Professionals. Its in our DNA to limit our impact as we shape the built environment, and unacceptable to compromise future generations because of our actions today, says Steve, who was most recently a project manager at firm. (You can bet that as soon as someone figures out how to build a time machine they'll come back with a written thank you note.) Hes been involved with a number of SoCal projects at Synder Langston, including Broadcoms HQ (pictured), the Pelican Hill Resort, and the new Hyundai North American HQ.
