Double Prize for Olson

Marriott tapped R.D. Olson Development as Developer of the Year at the hotelier’s annual owner’s conference last week. Actually, it was a doubleheader for Olson, which also won the Icon Award for excellence in architecture and construction. Snapped at the event: Marriott EVP Anthony Capuano, Olson CEO Bob Olson, Olson VP of finance Blake Evans, and Marriott chief development officer Eric Jacobs. Bob tells us the most challenging thing about building hotels in high-barrier markets like California is the environmental review process. It’s tough to address fire access, massing, traffic, parking, and greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously creating the right environment for guests, he says. (We always thought the hardest thing in hotels was getting Wi-Fi.)
