Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for bringing back a plan for a second new station on the recently extended No. 7 line on Manhattan’s far West Side.

“One of the best uses of that money would be to now start to build that station,” the senator said Monday at a Crain’s New York Business panel discussion.

Plans for the proposed station at 41st Street and 10th Avenue fell apart about 10 years ago because of a budget shortfall, The Real Deal reports. Sidewalk Labs CEO Dan Doctoroff said at the time, when he was Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s deputy mayor of economic development, he was embroiled in his “biggest fight” with the senator over the station.

As things stand, there’s an easement for a future station, so it’s mainly a question of funding. The extension of the No. 7 line beyond Times Square to the Hudson Yards area opened this past September.

Since we’re talking about reviving ambitious plans for the 7, what about the much-ballyhooed extension all the way to Secaucus, NJ, that was being discussed a few years back?

AECOM Capital SVP and one-time Port Authority executive director Chris Ward said, “Let’s not now add another potential project to further burden the MTA.”
