| Levine Builders and Douglaston Development held a ribbon cutting Thursday at the Williamsburg Community Apartments at N. 6th Street and Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. The new apartment complex, part of a market-rate development known as The Edge, is the largest-ever inclusionary zoning project, totaling 347 affordable units. It's also the largest affordable housing project along the Brooklyn waterfront. Here, HDC commissioner Marc Jahr, NYC planning commissioner Amanda Burden, and HPD commissioner Rafael Cestero look on as Brooklyn Borough prez Marty Markowitz presents developer Jeffrey Levine with an official proclamation declaring May 27 “Williamsburg Community Apartments Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Day in Brooklyn, USA.” The greeting card industry must be thrilled. |
| The entire development contains 1.7M SF of affordable rental housing, market-rate condos, retail, below-grade parking, public piers, a waterfront walkway, and parks. The Community Apartments were developed under the City's New Housing Marketplace Plan, which was launched by Mayor Mike in 2003 to build or preserve 165k units of housing by 2014.
