Paul Massey Says He'll Model Mayoral Campaign On Massey Knakal's Territory System

Paul Massey says he’ll officially announce his mayoral bid soon, and he intends to model his campaign strategy on Massey Knakal’s territory system.

That territory system split up the city into 50 regions, each with a designated broker. Paul hopes that sort of targeted approach, coupled with his business connections, will provide a winning formula, he tells The Real Deal.

“We’ve done business in every neighborhood, in every community,” he said, speaking at an ICSC event on Sunday. “And those are the relationships we would look to.”

Paul was a co-founder of brokerage Massey Knakal Realty Services, before selling the firm to Cushman & Wakefield for a cool $100M in 2014. He’s currently C&W’s president of investment sales. He first announced he was considering running for mayor back in March

In January, Massey formed a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, 1NY Together, for fundraising purposes, but now says he’ll shutter the operation, in light of the controversy Mayor Bill de Blasio has faced over his use of a similar organization during his 2013 campaign.

Paul described former mayor Michael Bloomberg as “the model” for how he’d govern to TRD.

Don Peebles, head of developer Peebles Corp, is also mulling a mayoral bid in 2017. [TRD]
