HOTELIERS HOT FOR OUTER BOROUGHS

New York City is expected to continue its upward trajectory in hospitality, according to Troutman Sanders partner Sonia Kaur Bain who will be moderating Bisnow’s second annual New York Hotel Summit on March 22 at the Marriott Marquis.
Banks have money for development, which is needed to meet NYC’s population and industry growth, she says. One area operators are focusing on is the outer boroughs, which will see more flags and boutiques competing for space. “Many of these brands have not traveled out to the boroughs before,” she says. There’s particular interest in Brooklyn near the Barclays Center (in case you need sleep after pending Brooklyn Nets action) and Long Island City, and we may see interest in other areas like Roosevelt Island, where the proposed applied sciences center will attract outside visitors. Want to learn more? Sonia joins Tribeca Associates partner Mark Gordon, The Chartres Lodging Group co-founder Maki Nakamura Bara, Ackman-Ziff managing director Mark Owens, Hidrock Realty prez Abraham Hidary, RLJ Lodging Trust VP of acquisitions Jeffrey Dauray, Square Mile Capital principal Nolan Hecht, and Arent Fox partner Kimberly Wachen to discuss more of the city’s hottest hospitality trends.
