Whole Foods is going green. And it's not on the fruit-and-veggie front, either. On top of recent innovations, the grocery store is partnering with national solar companies NRG and SolarCity to add 100 new rooftop solar panels to its US stores. (Just when you thought they couldn't appeal any more to your inner hippie.)

The move counts among the largest 25 commercial rooftop solar installations in the country, the company says in a statement. It's expected to expand Whole Foods’ solar energy portfolio by 400%, cut electricity costs and supply cleaner power to the grid.
The move comes as the retail makes cost-cutting efforts for consumers, moving from "whole paycheck" to discount stores christened WF 365. (Now if only these energy savings will make Whole Foods even cheaper...)
