How Elon Musk Made $7.5B In One Day

Elon Musk unveiled the new Tesla Model 3 last week in LA—and made $7.5B in the process. Hordes of future customers placed $1k deposits on the new electric cars, which will be available in 2017 or 2018, Business Insider reports.

Based on his tweeting, Musk was excited about his success.

Model 3 orders at 180,000 in 24 hours. Selling price w avg option mix prob $42k, so ~$7.5B in a day. Future of electric cars looking bright!

By Saturday morning the electric car company had received more than 250,000 orders. While venture capitalist David Pakman says Musk is being overly optimistic—not everyone who places a deposit will buy the car, he points out—it's still not too bad for a day’s work. [BI]
