Amazon announced today that Prime members in NYC can get free one-hour delivery from local restaurants through its Prime Now app.
Unlike other delivery services, such as Seamless or GrubHub, Amazon won’t be adding an extra delivery fee onto the cost of the meal. That's CEO Jeff Bezos, above, who has led the company in its expansion into new goods and services.
“Amazon Prime members across Manhattan have already experienced the convenience of ultra-fast delivery through Prime Now,” says Gus Lopez, general manager, Amazon Restaurants. “And now, we are making it even better by adding free delivery from hundreds of local restaurants.”
The move comes as Amazon plans to expand its private-label offerings into foods and household items, offering its own brands in things like nuts, spices and diapers—opening another front in the battle of bricks vs. clicks.
