The nation's top cities for Energy Star certified buildings spread across every time zone in the U.S., reflecting the number of buildings in each city that have received the energy efficiency rating.
Mike Zatz, the manager of Energy Star commercial buildings at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, announced the 2017 Energy Star Top Cities on Monday at BOMA's Yardi-sponsored general session.
The rankings are determined by how many Energy Star buildings are within each city’s metropolitan area. Zatz said more than 30,000 buildings have earned the rating since 1999 and have saved over $4B on utility bills. The top 10 are as follows:

9. Boston (209 buildings)
8. Houston (236 buildings)
7. Chicago (268 buildings)
6. Dallas (343 buildings)
5. Atlanta (351 buildings)
4. San Francisco (372 buildings)
3. NYC (395 buildings)
2. Los Angeles (531 buildings)
