A hotel just off the Las Vegas Strip has high hopes of attracting cannabis-using tourists to Sin City.

Elevation Hotels & Resorts is renovating The Artisan Hotel Boutique in Vegas into The Lexi, which it is billing as Las Vegas' first cannabis-friendly hotel, it announced last week. The fourth floor of the 64-room hotel will welcome travelers to consume cannabis and comes outfitted with high-tech air filters.

Elevation CEO Alex Rizk said in a statement that the company is committed to "acceptance and normalization of cannabis in the hospitality space."

Elevation is undertaking a multimillion-dollar renovation of the property at 1501 West Sahara Ave. along with the rebranding. The renovated hotel, which will also feature a rooftop pool and Cajun-style steakhouse from Executive Chef Jordan Savell, is expected to open this spring.

Most hotels bill themselves as smoke-free properties, and most jurisdictions where recreational cannabis is legal bar its public consumption.

Elevation opened a similar concept, The Clarendon Hotel, in Phoenix. Nevada legalized recreational adult-use marijuana in 2016, and Arizona joined it in 2020. Recreational cannabis is now legal in 21 states and D.C., according to cannabis news site MJBizDaily.

Legal marijuana sales are expected to reach $33B in 2022, a 32% increase over last year's total of $25B, MJBiz reported. The illegal cannabis industry, on the other hand, has an estimated value of more than $100B per year, according to Forbes.
