Loew joined Amazon in early 2023 as vice president of the company’s global real estate and facilities team to work alongside the company’s longtime real estate head, John Schoettler.

Loew was promoted to lead the $2T company's real estate operations at the end of 2024, following Schoettler’s retirement after 23 years, overseeing a portfolio of more than 65M SF, GeekWire reported.

“After almost three years at Amazon, Shannon has decided to pursue other opportunities outside of the company,” Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser said in a statement. “We appreciate all his contributions and wish him the best of luck.”

The company hasn’t disclosed who will step into the role following Loew's departure.

Loew oversaw Amazon’s workplace portfolio, which consisted of 340,000 workers across 550 addresses in 70 countries during his time as vice president, according to a podcast he recorded with ZRG Partners.

Amazon has made a huge push to get employees back into the office five days a week this year. In September, Loew said at the International Downtown Association conference in Seattle that the company would continue doubling down on the efforts, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

As it has pushed employees back to their desks, Amazon has rapidly expanded its office footprint. It leased a 217K SF Silicon Valley building in December, took 50K SF in Miami in January, and since the fall, Amazon has leased or bought roughly 1.5M SF of Manhattan office space.

The tech giant is also considering a $15B plan to build dozens of new warehouses across the country, seeking development partners to help build new fulfillment centers and delivery stations.
