Regency Theatres' Granada Hills Location Slated To Become A Home Depot

It’s curtains for the Regency Theatres Granada Hills location.

Home Depot, through an LLC, purchased the theater site in October for $37M, The Real Deal reports. Now, the LLC has filed plans with the city to demolish the theater and build a new Home Depot on it. The new additions would total 136K SF — about 108K SF for the store, plus a roughly 28K SF garden center. There would also be 366 parking spots.

The nine-screen theater is still open. The Real Deal didn’t outline a time frame for construction.

Home Depot has been doing brisk business over the last two years, first as do-it-yourself projects kept people busy during lockdowns, and then as things opened up and large-scale projects began picking up steam.

The movie theater industry didn't have the same luck, leaving some to wonder whether the pandemic has impacted the business permanently.

Regency Theaters operates about 20 theaters in Southern California alone, according to its website, and has been in business for more than two decades. The chain sold off its San Fernando Valley location, but it has also made recent purchases: The company bought an eight-screen theater in Indio in late 2021 and plans to reopen it this summer.
