Macerich And Simon To Develop Premium Outlet In Carson

Shopping center real estate investment trust Macerich and mall owner and operator Simon Property Group have announced they are teaming up on a 50/50 joint venture to develop a premium outlet center on a former landfill in Carson.

The Los Angeles Premium Outlets will be a combined 566K SF shopping destination that will be on East Del Amo Boulevard and abut the Interstate 405 freeway. The outlet center will be across from the Porsche Experience Center.

A Macerich official said the JV is working with the city to work on the site. The plan is to open by fall 2021.

“We are very pleased to partner in the development of this one-of-a-kind outlet project on great, well-positioned real estate to serve one of the nation’s most attractive markets,” Macerich President Ed Coppola said in a news release.

Macerich and Simon officials said this was a good opportunity to create a product in an area with 2.5 million residents within a 10 miles. The property is also located just 11 miles from the Los Angeles International Airport.

Macerich and Simon will co-develop and jointly lease the outlet.

"We see this high-quality outlet project as one that will add value to our community for many years to come, attracting locals and tourists from all over the world,” Carson Mayor Albert Robles said in a news release.
