Cosm Wants To Develop A Domed Structure Near Sofi Stadium.

The developer of a domed entertainment center at Inglewood's Hollywood Park is betting that immersive performances in the round, using methods similar to those employed in planetariums, will dazzle audiences and bring people in droves to see live events at the venue near Los Angeles' NFL stadium.

“It’s about this convergence of the physical and the digital. The dome form factor is an amazing way to bring that to life,” Cosm President and CEO Jeb Terry told The Hollywood Reporter.

Cosm develops the technology that planetariums, including the one at the Griffith Observatory, use to present their visuals.

The HKS-designed venue will hold an LED dome that measures 26.6 meters in diameter (about 87 feet) and be able to hold about 1,700 visitors. The owners anticipate hosting live sports and entertainment, experiential events and content, immersive art and music when it opens.

Cosm is one of a handful of industry insiders betting big on domes, according to the Reporter.

Madison Square Garden parent company MSG Entertainment is building a giant dome in Las Vegas called MSG Sphere. The $1.9B project is set to open in 2023. It will feature a 160K SF LED display inside and a 580K SF LED display on the outside of the building with the ability to accommodate 20,000 visitors.

Cosm's 65K SF facility in Hollywood Park’s nearly 900K SF retail district will be a stone's throw away from SoFi Stadium, in a large retail district that already includes a high-end movie theater, a space by locally based Three Weavers Brewing Co. and restaurants. The Hollywood Park development spans almost 300 acres.
