The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza may soon get a big facelift.

A crowd attended the LA Planning Commission's July 13 meeting with some in support of the plan and others with concerns about traffic, local hiring and possible displacement from the neighborhood, the LA Times reports.

The planning commission unanimously voted in favor of the plan, insisting 25% of the workers hired to work on the project should be local.

Capri Capital Partners would also have to set aside 10% of the residential units for households that fall under particular economic thresholds, which is a higher percentage than originally proposed.

Five percent of the units would be set aside for families making 50% or less of the area's median income. According to the planning commission's guidelines, a family of four would have to make less than around $43K.

The LA City Council will still have to approve the plan.

The project would add more than 300K SF of retail and restaurant space, a 400-room hotel, a 10-story office building, 551 condos and 410 apartments to the plaza, Curbed Los Angeles reports.

The 70-year-old revamped mall on the 43-acre site will have 6,829 parking spaces, including 2,000 for residents.

The project is next to the Crenshaw Line, which is expected to open in 2019.
