EVENT SPOTLIGHT: The Retail Network

Retail madness has hit the New York metro region: big box discount retailers are out in full force trying to make deals, even with a small amount of boxes available; yogurt and burger franchises as well ashealth clubs are expanding; and special grocers are evaluating holes left by closing A&P stores, says Kimco Realty VP Joshua Weinkranz, above, with Saugatuck Commercial Real Estate principalPenny Wickey. Tenants are looking for aggressive deals from landlords, adds Penny, while these landlords are looking hard at credit and security/guarantees before moving forward with deal making.
The Retail Network members are all very optimistic about this noticeable uptick in business, CBRE first VP of retail services Jay Siano tells us—and what better way to celebrate this optimism than with a bit more retail madness? TRN is holding a college basketballand retail-themed event at Carlyle at the Palace in Plainview, Long Island next Thursday evening, bringing together retail-related brokers, landlords/developers, retailers, architects, and the allied trades tonetwork, make deals, and of course, play pop-a-shot games. Penny says that members are eager to connect, capitalizing on new and old friendships, and share tenant info and leads regarding expansion markets—referrals are extremely important at this time, as retail execs reach to every platform to expand deal-making potential.
