5 Most Anticipated DFW Restaurant Openings in 2015

2015 may be the year of the foodie. Here's five new eateries coming to Dallas that'll make your taste buds explode.

1. Filament

Matt McCallister, the chef/owner of FT33 in the Design District, plans to open his second restaurant, called Filament in Deep Ellum. He’s already leased a 4,500 SF building at 2626 Main St with a late spring opening anticipated. Filament will be part of a cluster of hot new restaurants, directly across the street from Braindead Brewing (expected to open in February). Braindead, at 2625 Main St, will feature chef David Peña from Palomino, and brewmaster Drew Huerter from Deep Ellum Brewery. Why are we excited? Matt was named the 2013 Best in DFW Chef of the Year by The Dallas Morning News and one of the best new chefs in America by Food and Wine magazine. Venture Commercial’s Mike Geisler, Colin Beams and Amy Pjetrovic repped the site’s developer, Scott Rohrman of 42 Real Estate. Blue Plate Network’s Carter Wilson and Lee Koons repped Filament.

2) Uchi

Foodies have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Tyson Cole’s upscale Japanese restaurant, which brought international culinary attention to its Austin location. Kite Realty Group regional manager for leasing Karly Kilroy says she found Uchi years ago when she was visiting her friends in Austin. “My favorite thing there is the basic sushi–-rice and fish, but everything there is crazy good because they have the absolute freshest fish,” she tells us. Uchi uses only the freshest ingredients from local farmers and has its seafood flown in daily from Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji market. The new location, at 2817 Maple Ave, could be open as soon as next month, according to reports. The site is hosting a fundraiser in early February for a local Meals on Wheels org.

3) Anywhere at Sylvan Thirty

West Dallas residents are ready to chomp down on Sylvan Thirty’s restaurants, which are slated to open throughout this year at 1818 Sylvan Ave. The first: a ramen noodle place, Ten Slurp Shop, is expected to open next month. But, once it starts, the ball won’t quit rolling. Cibo Divino (an Italian marketplace originally called Bottega Italia) will open in March followed by Boom Juice (juice bar) next month and Whisk (crepes), which comes online this spring. But, the coup de gras will be the summer opening of Austin-based Tacodeli (pictured). This sixth Tacodeli location will be the first outside of the Austin area for the homegrown taqueria.

4) Americano

The Italian-inspired Americano restaurant will replace Charlie Palmer’s steakhouse (which closed in 2013) at The Joule. Slated for a fall opening, chefs Greg Bussey and Matt Ford have been tapped to lead the effort, the Dallas Morning News reports. The bar will be bigger and the restaurant will make better use of the patio space.

5) Herrera’s, Coal Vines, Little Katana Sushi & Bier Garden on Lamar

Coming this fall will be Coal Vines pizza, Little Katana Sushi, Herrera’s Tex-Mex and Bier Garden on Lamar just outside of the Omni Dallas Hotel near the convention center, according to the Morning News. The restaurants will top a new parking garage. Joseph Palladino (who co-owns Nick & Sam’s), who created the Coal Vines concept and co-owns the Uptown location, will operate the downtown Coal Vines and the beer garden. Locals will also salivate knowing there’s a Herrera’s downtown for a plate of enchiladas.
