North Michigan Avenue’s glitz dates all the way back to Prohibition, and the Chicago History Museum is examining its glamorous past with Chicago Styled: Fashioning the Magnificent Mile, according to Chicago Magazine. Featuring 26 outfits selected by curator Petra Slinkard, the exhibit uses fashion to tell the renowned avenue’s story. The ‘20s, in fact, were one of the most pivotal decades for the stretch from the river to the Drake, Petra tells Chicago Magazine. In addition to local boutiques like Blum’s Vogue planting a flag there, Saks selected the Mag Mile as its second US location in 1929, she says. From there we built up with the Hancock and Water Tower, and branched out with more everyman retailers like Gap.
