Renovation Fetches $15 Mil

With tails a'waggin, Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors retrieved the $15M 42k SF HQ renovation for the SPCA of Texas, president Doug Talley tells us. We hear it wasn't a ruff decision, but more of a treat to work with the non-profit.

CEO Paul Driscoll says the facility will be designed by Hinojosa Architecture & Interiors and located at 2400 Lone Star near Hampton Road and I-30. The move was necessary, as its current site along Riverfront Boulevard was purchased by the Texas DOT as part of the Trinity River project. The new site will be a shelter and surgery center and feature playrooms, classrooms, and green spaces for pet adoption and education. It's slated for completion summer '11.
Perhaps jealous of man's best friend, Hill & Wilkinson will relocate as well. Doug and Paul tell us its corporate HQ is moving next month from Plano to Richardson, 27k SF in the 190 Tech Park building at 2703 Telecom Pkwy. Interra Development Group's Barry Nelson repped Hill & Wilkinson. The move won't slow H&W. Paul tells us the firm is working on three major projects for the UT system, including the $30M UT Health Science Center in Tyler. Another project, the Burleson Recreation Center, more like a "water park" than a municipal building, opened last month, Paul says.
"A huge part of our business is healthcare," Doug tells us, "so we're paying a lot of attention to healthcare reform. The way the industry reacts to it will impact how we react." Current projects include several rehab hospitals: Global Rehab Hospital, above, and the recent completion of a San Antonio facility. “We're doing a lot of surgery centers and acute care facilities,” he adds. “What we see coming is a demand for assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities resulting from an aging population.”
